The second week of Sit’n’go satellite tournaments for the Malta Poker Summer Face/Off was held on Wednesday the 28th April 2010 at the Dragonara Casino.
The Freeze-out tournament attracted a table of players eager to win the first prize and main event ticket for the €300 + €30 Summer Face/Off event, being held at the Dragonara Casino between the 28th and the 20th May 2010
Some familiar players attended the tournament, including Antoine De Giorgio, Alexander Fenech, Kurt Cutajar, Alexander Grima, and Vanja Torbarov
Players were given 5,000 chips as their starting balance, and slowly started making their way through the 20 minute blind levels while focusing on the final prize. By midnight, three players were left in the game - Alexander Grima, Antoine De Giorgio, and Kurt Cutajar.
De Giorgio had a good run throughout the tournament, carefully pacing himself in the earlier stages of the game, following up with aggressive posturing through the more mature stages of the tournament. His strategy worked well throughout the tourney until he lost a hand against Kurt Cutajar when 3 players were left in the game which sent him out in third place.
Following De Giorgio’s exit, the game was now a heads up between Kurt Cutayar and Alexander Grima. Alex was in the chip lead at this stage, and held a healthy stack which be built over a series of well calculated decisions in the earlier hours of the game.
The final hand was a strong blow for Kurt who held A 6 vs Grima’s 5h 8h. Kurt was on the button here, leaving Alexander Grima as the first player to act. Both players checked the blinds and the dealer proceeded to deal the flop which came out as a 6c 7c and 4d giving Alexander the nuts. Alexander slow played his monster with the intention of trapping Kurt, who took the bait and pushed All-in with his ‘middle pair top kicker’, a pretty decent hand when playing heads-up.
Alexander insta-called Kurt’s push, almost quicker than you can say ‘All-in’ and showed off his 4 – 8 wheel [straight]. Chances were very slim for Kurt at this stage, which eventually turned to nil once the dealer uncovered a 10 on the turn and a 9 on the river.
Alexander Grima, placed first in last night’s tournament, winning a main event seat to the Summer Face/Off Poker tournament. The main event will be taking place at the Dragoanra Casino, Malta on the 28 – 30th May 2010. Apart from cash prizes, the Summer Face/Off is also offering the winner of the event and all inclusive Poker tournament package to participate in a $1,100 event taking place in Cyprus during the month of July.
